The district office uses PC compatible computer hardware and 2M Data Systems accounting and payroll software. Networking is used between three workstations. The independent auditor uses the satisfactory reports generated to produce the annual audit. There is flexibility in the software to allow cost center and building report data. Also in use by the superintendent’s secretary is Access, a data base program capable of considerable power and flexibility. There are no scanners in the office and some computers are not Y2K compliant.

The technology plan throughout the rest of the district is in the fifth year of a five-year plan. E-mail connects all teachers and staff with computers together, so they are able to communicate swiftly and efficiently. Conceivable problems with many non-Y2K compliant computers are a concern to the technology coordinator.

Recommendation

As money and time allow, it is recommended that the district continue to update computer systems. They should develop an updated technology plan using the new state technology and J. A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation guidelines and grant monies available. Additional computer training of staff on available software is also recommended.
