Interscholastic Activities POLICY
NO: 590
Interscholastic activities for all students, and competition therein, are recognized as
a valid part of the total school Program. Expenditure of school district funds under
direction and in accordance with district expenditure and budgetary regulations is
authorized for support of these activities. Appropriate levels of the school district will
maintain membership in the Idaho Activities Association.
All competitive interscholastic activities and competitions shall follow the rules of
the Idaho High School Activities Association.
The following guidelines shall be followed in interscholastic activities and
competitions:
- The director shall be qualified to direct such activity.
- All interscholastic activities and competition should be scheduled as far in advance as
possible.
- All students involved in interscholastic activities and competition shall demonstrate
sportsmanship, respect and cooperation.
- All activities and competitions shall conform to the rules and regulations of:
- The Idaho High School Activities Association;
- This Districts Activities Association;
- Local city ordinances and the laws of the state of Idaho; and
- This District.

Eligibility and Participation in
Interscholastic Activities
POLICY NO: 592
This district will
follow all current and subsequent eligibility requirements for participation in
interscholastic activities, as set forth by the Idaho High School Activities
Association (IHSAA). All students wishing to participate in any interscholastic
activity must meet the eligibility requirements for that activity, as
established by IHSAA.
TRAINING AND PARTICIPATION
REQUIREMENTS
Coaches and/or advisors are expected to set reasonable
standards for continued eligibility, including, but not limited to, training and
other participation requirements, academic performance, and sportsmanship. Such
standards will be in writing and distributed to the students at the beginning of
the sports season or enrollment period. Student participants in all
extracurricular activities are expected to comply with such requirements.
Coaches and/or advisors may suspend students for failing to comply with training
and participation requirements.
During any suspension period, the student will be required
to adhere to training rules and practice sessions. The student will be required
to attend home events. A student suspended from athletics may not dress down
with the team or travel with the team to away contests during the period of
suspension.
PROHIBITION AGAINST THE
POSSESSION OR USE OF ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES
Student participating in interscholastic activities are
prohibited from possessing, using, or distributing tobacco, alcohol, illegal
drugs, and/or paraphernalia.
Any student involved with any of these substances or items
may be suspended or expelled from all participation in contests for a period of
time to be determined by the appropriate coach/advisor and school principal.

Athletic Activities Insurance POLICY NO: 594
As a prerequisite for participation in interscholastic athletic programs, (1) each
student must participate in an insurance program. If the student is not covered by private
insurance, insurance coverage will be made available with an insurance company through the
school; and (2) the parent/guardian must give permission for the student to
participate in the athletic program. The building principal will inform the parents of the
limits of protection provided by the school policy in the event of an athletic injury.
This district does not assume any financial responsibility for medical or hospital
expenses incurred because of athletic injuries. Athletes participate at their own risk.

Extracurricular Awards POLICY NO: 596
This school district will recognize students who participate in extracurricular
activities by awarding letters or certificates of participation. The type of award and
criteria for receiving an award will be established prior to the commencement of the
activity. Each coach and advisor will inform student participants of the requirements and
standards for earning an award in the activity.
If a member of a varsity sport is injured during that sport season, and cannot meet the
requirements for earning an award, the coach has the prerogative to determine whether that
student has earned a letter.
Managers of a varsity sport may earn a manager's letter for fulfilling the requirements
set by the coach for that sport.

Transportation to School-Sponsored
Activities
POLICY NO: 598
Transportation to all extracurricular activities scheduled away from
this district will be provided by the district. All student participants are required to
utilize the transportation provided by this school district to travel to and from these
scheduled events.
If a student participant wishes to ride home with his/her parent or
legal guardian, the parent or legal guardian must personally sign the established sign out
sheet at the conclusion of the event.

Extracurricular Student Activities POLICY
NO: 599
The schools in this school district will develop a well rounded, and age-appropriate,
activities program, providing opportunities for students to participate in activities
which may include, but are not limited to, journalism and yearbook, music, speech and
drama, and interscholastic athletics. To provide a variety of activities for the students,
the school district will periodically assess the types of activities offered, the
scheduling of facilities and activities, and the expenditure of funds.
